Founder, Mentor, Teacher

Ms. Heidi

I’m a mom of five wonderful teens and young adults, and I’ve loved living a creative life. I grew up surrounded by athletics and the arts...my mom was a professional ballerina and performer, and my dad a sports coach and teacher. My own youth was filled with dance, musical theater, and later, years of teaching and choreographing at my mother's studio in Salt Lake City. I danced on scholarship at Utah State, graduated from the University of Utah in Family and Human Development, and have spent the years since blending creativity, family, spirituality, business, and community.

I’ve founded several businesses from a recurring, handmade market featuring 70+ local artisans, to a jewelry company that grew far beyond my expectations, to professional photography work that began 18+ years ago. Alongside some successes and plenty of “dust myself off and try again” moments, I’ve found some of my greatest fulfillment teaching and mentoring both children and adults, whether in creative arts, dance, photography, leadership, religion, or life skills. Several years ago, when my oldest was 14 and my youngest was 5, God gave me the call to homeschool. It was exciting and overwhelming and I put a lot of my business ventures aside to focus on working more closely with my own children. But as they are now mostly grown, it's time for me to get back to work in other ways, including with your children!

I’m the third of six children and was born and raised in Utah before moving to Ghana with my family at the age of 13, where I developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of people, places, and cultures. During our time in Ghana, my family and I served in multiple children's homes, providing care and support for the children there.

In my childhood home, Godly principles were naturally woven into everyday living. This upbringing nurtured my love for nature and the classics. Many mornings were spent working in the garden while listening to classical music or audiobooks and I was frequently involved in nature outings and groups.

When I wasn't outdoors helping and exploring, I enjoyed and took initiative to clean and organize spaces, activities, and gatherings. I have many interests, including photography, sewing, jewelry making, cooking, sailing, scuba diving, dancing, reading, sports, and gardening/farming.

I have a passion for helping others, which led me to serve as a summer youth camp counselor and later as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In 2024 and 2025, I was the hospitality apprentice at the Belle Ame Center Campus in Missouri, where I quickly earned the nickname "Mom"…my friends and co-workers there said it was for my gentle, nurturing spirit. I have a deep love for all people, especially children, and find joy in caring for them. There is no person or thing too broken or dirty to care for and love.

We also work with a few other trusted instructors…talented, creative young adults (often former students themselves) who are wonderful with children and youth. As The Creators’ Workshop grows, you may also meet seasoned guest mentors who bring their own artistic perspectives to our community.
